FC Mandeville  2 – 6  Penn & Tylers Green FC Reserves

Penn & Tylers Green FC’s reserves went to Mandeville in the third round of the Berks and Bucks Junior cup and put in for the most part a disciplined display to convincingly advance into the next round of the Berks and Bucks Junior cup.

On a council pitch which wasn’t the best of playing surfaces, Penn & Tylers Green FC dominated from start to finish despite the fact that the first chance went to Mandeville who forced a good block from the Penn & Tylers Green FC defence. Soon after this Penn & Tylers Green FC found their feet and started to play some of their nice one touch football. Chances started to come Penn & Tylers Green FC’s way with Mike Benning having two long range shots well saved by the Mandeville keeper. Penn & Tylers Green FC eventually took the lead after James “Lefty” Wright finished from close range after some good build up play down the Penn & Tylers Green FC left flank. Wright scored his and Penn & Tylers Green FC’s second soon after with a similar effort from close range. Penn & Tylers Green FC continued to look the better side and created chance after chance and eventually were awarded with a third goal before half time with Mike Benning finishing well after a neat move from Penn & Tylers Green FC. By half time the game was pretty much already won and considering Penn & Tylers Green FC had only got into second gear and shown glimpses of their quick fluent football, the challenge of getting into double figures set at half time was not unrealistic.

The second half started like the first with Penn & Tylers Green FC dominance. Graham Potts, who with his quick feet and pace down the left had been causing havoc all afternoon, soon made it 4-0 with a fantastically taken half volley into the top right hand corner. After picking up a knock, he was soon replaced by James Galvani who is returning for Christmas from University in America. Penn & Tylers Green FC were still creating chances and one of these was finished well by substitute Matthew Payne from 12 yards out after a scramble in the Mandeville penalty area. Penn & Tylers Green FC were awarded a penalty when Spencer James was taken down by a mistimed challenge in the Mandeville box. This left Lefty a chance to complete his hat-trick but bizarrely before the kick was taken, the ref changed his decision and awarded a goal kick. Penn & Tylers Green FC were committing more and more men forward and Mandeville got a consolation goal after a neat counter attacking move ended in a square ball across the box for their striker to put past a helpless Matt Cannings in the Penn & Tylers Green FC goal. Penn & Tylers Green FC were not content with their lead and added a sixth when James Galvani showed his class with a very well struck volley into the top right hand corner. Mandeville hit back again after a very harsh penalty was awarded for handball. The penalty was well taken and made the score 6-2 which was how the game finished.

After a three week enforced break, this was a good game for Penn & Tylers Green FC to get some rustiness out of their system and after this routine win, they should now be raring to go for Wednesday night’s visit to Ascot United.
