Beaconsfield SYCOB 2 – 0 PTGFC Youth

Penn and Tylers Green turned up at Beaconsfield SYCOB on the back of a 1-1 draw full of confidence. After only losing out 3-2 to SYCOB earlier in the season, this match looked destined to be a tight affair. However, both team turned out with 10 men each. Penn started with 3 at the back with Byron Stephens on the left, Jonny Carpenter in the middle and Alex Morgan on the right. The midfield consisted of Josh Woolford and Charlie Whitfield on the wings with Joey Fisher and Will Eustace playing centre midfield. Up front were Josh Knight and Luke Cohen.

The game was very scrappy with both teams unable to pass the ball around due to the bobbly pitch. Both keepers weren’t being tested and the game was mainly played in the middle of the park. Both teams were using the long ball to their advantage but neither side could get a chance on goal. The defence were solid and were winning most headers along with Will Eustace who worked tirelessly all game for the team.

The first real chance of the game came when a long throw by Luke Cohen found it’s way to Josh Knight who put a shot into the side netting. Another chance came when Joe Fisher weaved his way through 2 defenders before his shot got blocked with the ball landing at Josh Knight but he sliced a good chance wide. However SYCOB were looking dangerous on the break and were starting to pass the ball around with ease. A long ball over the top wasn’t dealt with and the striker pulled the ball back for the SYCOB midfielder to blast into the top corner. Penn refused to let their heads drop and with good work down the wings by Charlie Whitfield and Josh Woolford led to a number of corners and long throws. SYCOB continued to look dangerous and a few long shots went wide of Conor Latta’s goal.

The second half started and SYCOB were now in full rhythm and were passing the ball around and causing lots of danger. SYCOB continued to control the ball and put a lot of pressure on Penn’s back 3. It was clear to see that Penn were tired and sluggish. SYCOB exploited this by passing it around and using the wings as much as possible. Both Charlie Whitfield and Byron Stephens were coping well with the pressure as well as Alex Morgan and Josh Woolford. Crosses were coming in and were being dealt with well by Jonny Carpenter and Will Eustace. After a number of chances for SYCOB with shots narrowly going wide, another goal came when a cross come shot went over Conor Latta’s head into the top corner of the net.

Penn moved Byron Stephens forward and pushed Charlie Whitfield back soon after this and this led to a number of good crosses being put in which just evaded Luke Cohen and Josh Knight. Joe Fisher continued to battle hard and was clipping balls over the top for the striker’s to chase. After SYCOB went 2-0 up, they played keep ball and kept possession with no real intention of getting another goal. The last chance for SYCOB was when a free-kick was well saved by Conor Latta.

An unfortunate end to the season for the Youth team.

Onwards and upwards for next season.
