Tony Hurst - PTGFC Chairman

Penn & Tylers Green First Team entertain newcomers & champions from the North Berks League Lambourn Sports in their first league match of the new season this Saturday the 13th (No superstitious paranoia

please) at French School Meadow Kick-Off 3pm.

Chairman Tony Hurst commented:

”Although some of the actual results in the friendly games appear to say otherwise, this had been a good, productive, hard pre –season for new manager John Sepede’s new look team, with good new young blood coming in to the club and so the team has been evolving as the new players have been brought into the various line-ups to gel with the established players, against some strong opposition. Training sessions have been well attended and the attitude and commitment of managers, coaches, players and staff has been fantastic.

I would like to thank last season’s squads for staying virtually en-bloc throughout all teams and also welcome the new players to our club and the signs are that everybody is bonding and settling in nicely and the good thing this season is that we will have healthy competition within the club for places in all our senior teams thus hopefully making all four teams stronger than in previous years. This will also hopefully have the effect of everybody raising their standards on the field throughout the four senior teams in order to impress the relevant team managers accordingly. My challenge to all four senior teams this season (and expectation actually) is to have some silverware on show at the end of the season.

The “real stuff” starts tomorrow and we are looking forward to the new season and are confident of an improvement on last year’s league position. Lambourn Sports will obviously provide a tough test as they will also want to “hit the ground running” in their first ever match in the Hellenic League.

So, it really does have all the ingredients to be a cracking match so, to the rest of the club, from juniors to seniors, and also to the local community I urge you to : Get along to Penn on Saturday and support your local club, it really does make a difference,.”

Finally ,good luck to all Penn & Tylers Green Teams for the coming season from me and all the committee.
