Great Win on the Road

Due to an injury to Jack Dean attention by the usual “suspect” match report authors was obviously drawn to the injured player. A-Team (they did not have a game today) and Youth Team goal keeper Conor Latta kindly rustled up a quick report on this great win on the road. This was particularly sweet after last Saturday’s drubbing by Finchampstead. The gaffer clearly found the right antidote.

2 mins: Penalty. Controversial after great tackle from Jack Dean. Cannings booked. Newbury slotted home. Jack Dean had to come off injured. Anthony Taylor comes on.

On a very foggy Sunday morning (real fog – nothing to do with any possible Saturday night entertainment) both teams meant business right from the start. Let’s make no mistake Bourne End are good side and this game proved it.

After early exchanges with Penn & Tylers Green FC playing some neat football both teams created opportunities and both keepers were kept busy all morning.

An Unsung Hero

Old Bore No 2

Everyone knows there are three old bores at Penn & Tylers Green Football Club. One is the Chairman, one is the Secretary and one is the Vice Chairman. The last one mentioned is Andy Walker, our Vice Chairman, one of our unsung heroes.

Wrong End of a 12 Goal Feast

This is the second week running that a Penn & Tylers Green side was at the wrong end of a 12 goal thriller. Last week our A-Team lost by the same margin. One for a pub quiz, no doubt. Anyhow, on a beautiful sunny November afternoon (this is where from our point of view the positive bits stop) the game kicked off at 14:15. Little did we know what was in store today? The neutral may well have been entertained but the French School Meadows faithfulls did not enjoy it one little bit.

Two things – just to get this out of the way, why is it that whenever referees are being assessed needless card feasts take place? Yes and one crucial decision early on would have changed the game but it did not go the way it should have and that’s enough about that.

The 1st team travelled to sunny Abingdon with a spring in there step after recent good results. It was made abundantly clear, by Giovanni, that we were in for a tough game and so it proved. We started very brightly and went close through Liam but his header went straight at the keeper.

Then we gave away a cheap free kick and this resulted in Abingdon scoring and also Giovanni Sepede venting his disappointment and losing his Tea, someone owes him 80p.

Penn & Tylers Green FC reserves run out comfortable winners in a 6-2 rout against their favoured opponents Reading Town on this cold autumn day at French Meadows. In what was to be the pre cursor to a PDC night out in Bournemouth it was imperative that the Reserves took 3 points to ensure the night out was a success.

Weedon was thrown in at left back to cover for the 1st team bound Wayne Booth and boy did we know he was playing left back. Crikey, toys, pram etc. Many people mentioned that Weedon needed a clip round the ear to get himself back in line, which was provided later that night by a rather butch German female who was paid by Whizz to punch Weedon, she was only too glad to help out. “Das wird ihm eine Lehre sein”.

Reward for Class

County Selection for Penn & Tylers Green FC Girl

We are delighted that Izzy Collins from our flourishing girls section has been selected to join the Berks & Bucks u11 County Squad. Izzy attended trials at the county’s FA approved

Player Development Centre during September and October and has done brilliantly to be chosen. This opportunity will provide Izzy with additional high quality training from level 2 & 3 coaches and the opportunity to progress to Centre of Excellence and National teams if her talent allows. The great news for us is that Izzy can continue playing for Penn & Tylers as well as the two or three scheduled county fixtures. Izzy is in her second season with the club having represented the u10s last year and is eligible for both the u11 and u12 squads this season, where she has already made her mark with a hat-trick against Chalfont St Peter.

Good away point for the A-Team

A visit to the Rye for the 7th time this season for the A-team, this time ‘away’ at a place that feels oh so like home now, against the contenders for the Fair play award this season AFC Spartans.

New player manager Rob Chappel was faced with a good selection headache this week as communication between the Penn & Tylers Green FC Managers seems to have picked up to the level it should be. It was a selection choice that saw Rob place himself on the bench alongside the in-form Dougie and Father Will. Again the A’s were provided with the luxury of another 11 to have chosen from with the clubs squad as a whole currently very strong. But Rob chose his players and chose them wisely.

Youth game abandoned

Youth cup game abandoned due to player injury

This was a sad day this Sunday for Ben Heathers who suffered a fracture to his leg in the cup tie at Prestwood this morning. The incident happened just before half time and the game was – quite rightly – abandoned by the excellent referee Roger Lipscombe.

The paramedic and the ambulance arrived speedily to ensure that Ben was in good hands. He is now being looked after at Stoke Mandeville. We would like to thank the Prestwood manager Dave Simpson and all other Prestwood players and officials for all their support this morning.

Everyone at Penn & Tylers Green FC wishes Ben a speedy recovery.

No points’ failure against the Railwaymen

Penn & Tylers Green FC 1 – Didcot Town FC 0

Penn & Tylers Green FC seem to struggle against teams from the southern end of the table. Unlike a few weeks ago against Hungerford Town Reserves this time it did not end in disappointment – at least on the results front.

Penn & Tylers Green FC won the game 1:0 because the boys never gave up. It was not pretty at times but – in the end effective. This is something which the gaffer Giovanni Sepede managed to have instilled into the mind-set of the players.
