Man of the Match Anthony Quigley

Penn & Tylers Green FC 3 – Bourne End FC 1

On a very foggy Sunday morning (real fog – nothing to do with any possible Saturday night entertainment) both teams meant business right from the start. Let’s make no mistake Bourne End are good side and this game proved it.

After early exchanges with Penn & Tylers Green FC playing some neat football both teams created opportunities and both keepers were kept busy all morning.

Bourne End’s main threat always came from standards, corners and free kicks. What was pleasing to see was the fact that the back four in front of keeper Conor Latta kept their shape and discipline, with Charlie Whitfield, Alex Morgan, Ross Brace and Joseph Sullivan contributing with a solid and battling performance.

Penn & Tylers Green FC were dangerous on the break and the use of the space on the flanks created chances for Luke Cohen and Anthony Quigley, if only Luke had brought his shooting boots today!!!!! Late in the first half Penn & Tylers Green FC were awarded a penalty but their keeper Jamie Britnell saved brilliantly from Anthony Quigley.

Again, from standards Bourne End created their best chances with Conor making a couple of excellent saves and Fabio Battista clearing one off the line. It was Fabio who opened the scoring with a long distance shot which went through the unfortunate Bourne End Keeper’s legs. This was his only mistake in an otherwise excellent performance by him. The 1:0 lead was maintained until half time.

In the second half (with the fog lifting only to return a few minutes later) Penn & Tylers Green FC faced a real battle playing up the slope. Bourne End tried hard but just could not break down our defence today. Conor made some more excellent saves which gave the opportunity to the hard working midfield of Curtis Stone, Captain Patrick Blunt, Joseph Sullivan and Will Brangwin to create some excellent chances, which were not converted due to Luke’s wrong boots or their keeper’s excellent saves in one on one situations.

The 2nd and 3rd goals finally came with Anthony Quigley and Joseph Sullivan finishing well. These were needed. Our substitutes Joshua Barr and Jordan Ives fitted in seamlessly.  With about 10 minutes to go Bourne End got one back and there was an anxious two minutes when Conor Latta and their captain Josh Triggs collided and stayed down after a challenge but there was nothing to worry when the two school mates got up shook hands and got on with it.

The game was seen out and it was good to be back to winning ways. Thanks to Ben Heathers, who was supporting his team mates this morning on his crutches from the sidelines.

In a very good game of Youth Team Football played in good spirits by both sides this was an excellent team performance by Penn & Tylers Green FC with everyone fighting for each other and with the star being the team. Well done everyone.
