On the Milton theme again, what better headline than the two of John Milton’s many works quoted above. Paradise seemed definitely lost after 20 minutes when Milton (the opposition of today – not the poet and politician) were winning the game two nil.

Another Unnecessary Defeat!

Penn & Tylers Green FC 1 – Rayners Lane FC 2

On a mild afternoon a day after Boxing Day Penn & Tylers Green FC entertained Rayners Lane, our friends from Middlesex. Before this afternoon’s game only one point and one place in the table separated both teams from each other.

A good festive crowd of 57 including a few supporters from Rayners Lane provided the right atmosphere in this closely fought but fair encounter, which was refereed excellently by the match official Neil Morrison.

Penn & Tylers Green FC had the better start playing up the slope and taking the lead after 15 minutes when Jamie Hunt’s header from Aiden Taylor’s corner beat the Rayners Lane defence and goal keeper. In the first 30 to 35 minutes Rayners Lane had a couple of chances with Matt Cannings making a good saves but overall their passing and shooting was not troubling the boys in blue & white a great deal. In that period Penn & Tylers Green FC should have extended the league but attempts from Rino Sepede and Owen Hunte-Millington only just missed the target.

Nearly there!!!

Chesham United Ladies FC (U12)  5 – 2 Penn & Tylers Green FC (U12)

The girls missed a great opportunity to defeat run away league leaders and defending champions Chesham United in a well contested game in horrible wintry conditions. The match kicked off in freezing sleet and after the coach gave the defence their customary wake up call, Penn & Tylers Green FC took the initiative with midfield of Kate, Izzy and Kitty allowing Chesham no time on the ball and making strong driving runs of their own. When Chesham did attack Sophia was very assured in goal.

The deserved Break through came just before half time when Rosie played a lovely through ball to Bex who slotted coolly home. Unfortunately the girls were unable to consolidate the lead as they allowed Chesham to waltz through the middle of the Penn & Tylers Green FC defence from the kick off to equalise (a valuable lesson learned!). Another win before the Festive Break

On a very frosty morning with the real possibility of the game being called off the excellent referee Fred Mullin gave the go ahead with five minutes to go before kick-off. Two very committed teams produced a very entertaining game in difficult conditions.

Penn & Tylers Green FC got the better start playing up the slope and took an early lead when Luke Cohen took advantage of a mix up between their keeper and defender and slotted the ball into the net from the edge of the box.

This was exactly what the boys needed. There were more opportunities on both sides but both keepers were outstanding in goal today making important saves throughout the game. Conor Latta in goal and most of the other boys attending his birthday get-together on Friday appeared to have recovered enough to be up for this game.

The strong wind helped Wendover with their equaliser after about 20 minutes. On this corner (all their corners were well taken and always dangerous) the strong wind decided to make the ball unplayable and it ended up in the back of the net. Continue reading…

Cursed by the Ambulance

This is the 4th time in five weeks that games involving Penn & Tylers Green FC ended up with the ambulance services arriving on the scene. Today’s Reserves game against Finchampstead FC (like the one last week) had to be abandoned due to a player injury.

This is our 2nd league defeat in a row. Against a strong but not unbeatable Newbury Town FC side we played Father Christmas today by gifting three goals to the opposition today. To be fair to them they took their chances and we did not and thus they deserved to win the game. They are a good side.

On a cold frosty afternoon with the frost never disappearing from the hedge end of the ground the pitch still played well and the spectators saw a good competitive game. Just to say thing straight at the beginning: There was an assessor there today but it did not influence the official a single bit, Steve Dolton had an excellent game.

Chairman’s apology to Penn & Tylers Green FC Girls Teams

The Chairman apologises

Chairman Tony Hurst “humbly” writes:

“I wish to apologise unreservedly to all the Managers, Coaches and players of Penn & Tylers Green FC Girls teams for my error in omitting the details of the Girls season so far in the “Village Voice” magazine. This was entirely my fault, but not intentional. It was a serious administration error on my behalf, all to do with PC’s, pressing wrong buttons, etc., etc. Reasons, but not an excuse. I was brought up with the standards ringing in my ears whereby: If you mess up you: Firstly, apologise and secondly, don’t do it again. I have messed up, so this is my apology, so number one condition is hopefully completed and accepted. With regard to the second condition, I will promise you that the next edition of the village voice will include testimony to the great job you are all doing and recognising your achievements so far this season in flying the flag for girls football ,and hopefully maybe Women’s football in the future, at Penn & Tylers Green F.C.”

Wycombe Senior Cup – Only beaten after extra time

Burnham FC 6 – Penn & Tylers Green FC 2 (after extra time)

On a cold night, which made it compulsory to indulge in the trademarked name of a thick, salty meat extract, developed in the 1870s by John Lawson Johnston and sold in a distinctive, bulbous jar, Penn & Tylers Green FC took on Burnham FC in the Wycombe Senior Cup last night at The Gore.

Man of the match

A strong Burnham FC side were taken to extra time by a very well organised and superbly battling Penn & Tylers Green FC. The boys coped well with the early exchanges and deservedly went ahead on 21 minutes with a Sepede Double Act when Rino was put through superbly by his brother Antonio then taking advantage of Burnham defending too high up the field. Rino spotted Burnham’s keeper Jordan Dawson off his line and lobbed the ball over him into the net. This was a neat and typical Rino Sepede finish. Burnham FC, who play two divisions above Penn & Tylers Green FC, tried to put their authority onto the game but the boys playing in their red & black away kit tonight battled hard and played some very good football. Liam Ratcliffe always looked dangerous with James Louison and Chris Hurst creating chances for Penn & Tylers Green FC. The boys kept their shape and deservedly went into the half time break 1-0 up. U14 Girls – Top of the League

Penn & Tylers Green FC U14 Girls grab the top spot

A 3-0 win at Chalfont Saints on Saturday saw Penn & Tylers Green FC Under 14 girls move to the top of the Bucks Girls Southern League. A great performance by the girls, which saw goals from Jemma, Jess and Hannah and solid performances from all the players. This achievement pays great credit to this squad of girls who were only formed at the start of the season through a merger with Holy Trinity.

With a very tight league and some tough fixtures ahead the girls still have some work to do but it is fantastic to see them competing with the bigger girls’ clubs and holding their own. Our thanks go to Darren and Daimo for their recent help at training and to our very loyal (and vocal) band of parent supporters.
