Chalfont Saints 1 – Penn & Tylers Green FC Youth 2

This was a typical cup battle with the Youth Team of Penn & Tylers Green FC deservedly coming out on top in the end against league leaders Chalfont Saints FC.

Man or the Match - Alex Morgan

In a tightly contested match it was Penn & Tylers Green FC who shaded the opening exchanges in this eagerly awaited encounter. Chalfont Saints, however, always looked dangerous on the counter attack. The defence was marshalled well by Alex Morgan with Jordan Ives and Charlie Whitfield beside him. Conor Latta had another solid game between the sticks. Midfield motors Curtis Stone, Patrick Blunt and Joseph Sullivan were well supported by the extremely hardworking Fabio Battista and William Brangwin. Luke Cohen and Anthony Quigley up front kept the opposition defence busy as usual.

It was against the run of play and due to the only bit of sloppiness in midfield which led to the opener for Chalfont Saints when there player was allowed to run from deep to tuck the ball into the back of the net. Penn & Tylers Green FC responded with good and neat football but it was not to be. Their keeper made one outstanding save from close range when it looked certain that Anthony Quigley would score.

Scored the Equaliser - William Brangwin

At half time Ross Brace replaced Joseph Sullivan and the boys kept pressing for the equaliser. For a long time it looked like Penn & Tylers Green FC would not be rewarded with Fabio missing two good chances, one of which hit the post. Josh Woodford came on late to give the boys some more energy. In the end the boys were rewarded for their battling and persistence when Will Brangwin got the equaliser and shortly after that Fabio Battista got the winner from close range. The boys held their nerves and saw the result out with seven minutes added time. This was an excellent and well deserved victory. Unfortunately Sean Bennett could not come on for his debut but the shape of the game did not allow this today.

Fabio Battista scored the winner

Now it is away against Chalfont St Peter in the league next Sunday afternoon.
