Another win before the Festive Break

Penn & Tylers Green FC Youth 2 – Wendover Junior 1

On a very frosty morning with the real possibility of the game being called off the excellent referee Fred Mullin gave the go ahead with five minutes to go before kick-off. Two very committed teams produced a very entertaining game in difficult conditions.

Luke Cohen - Man of the match and scorer

Penn & Tylers Green FC got the better start playing up the slope and took an early lead when Luke Cohen took advantage of a mix up between their keeper and defender and slotted the ball into the net from the edge of the box.

This was exactly what the boys needed. There were more opportunities on both sides but both keepers were outstanding in goal today making important saves throughout the game. Conor Latta in goal and most of the other boys attending his birthday get-together on Friday appeared to have recovered enough to be up for this game.

The strong wind helped Wendover with their equaliser after about 20 minutes. On this corner (all their corners were well taken and always dangerous) the strong wind decided to make the ball unplayable and it ended up in the back of the net.

On about thirty minutes Luke Cohen got his second goal of the morning when he picked up a good through ball and then lifted the ball over the advancing but helpless goal keeper for a 2:1 lead.

Could not hit the Barn Door - Anthony Quigley

Tony's Barn Door

In the second half Wendover pushed for the equaliser but Alex Morgan stayed solid as centre half. With them pushing forward we created a number of chances on the counter attack. Tony Quigley did not have his lucky boots on this morning. The saying “You couldn`t hit a barn door if you were sitting on the handle” came to mind. But he was creating the chances, was in the right positions and never gave up with his excellent work rate.

Curtis Stone had a solid game in midfield with William Brangwin also putting in his usual consistent shift. The boys saw the game out and deservedly picked up another three points before the Christmas Break.

The Team: Conor Latta – Jordan Ives – Alex Morgan – Charlie Whitfield – William Brangwin – Ross Brace – Patrick Blunt (Captain) – Curtis Stone – Fabio Battista – Antony Quigley – Luke Cohen (2). Subs: Sean Bennett – Joseph Sullivan – Edward How
