After last week’s sluggish performance against Downley Dynamos, a game we were lucky to win, I’m sure a few of us were a bit nervous when we arrived at Abingdon Town for our County Cup Semi-Final.

Under 13s Team
After a slow start for the first five minutes, the boys soon got into their stride, and pressed the ball at every opportunity, winning almost every 50:50 ball. The defence stayed strong and the midfield dominated play, with the ball hardly coming into our half in the first 30 minutes. But despite all the pressure, Abingdon’s defence was strong, and we could only resort to half chances, most taken from the edge of the penalty area. Then with only minutes to half time, Abingdon caught us on the break and we were lucky when an alert Oliver White saved a shot close to his left hand post.
The second half was not as easy as the first. Abingdon were much stronger, won more of the 50:50’s and started troubling the defence much more. Then with 20 minutes to go, and arguably against the run of play, Abingdon scored with a shot/cross which sailed over the defence and an outstretched keeper, into the top of the net. Continue reading…
