Annual Awards Evening, Dinner & Dance another rousing success

This year’s senior section awards evening and annual dinner & dance was held at Hazlemere Golf Club last night. It turned out to be another successful event.
Doors opened at 19:00 with Vice Chairman Andy Walker and Secretary Andreas Latta “policing” the entrance so that no one got through the doors for a free meal (did not fancy doing the washing up after the event). It goes without saying that the Secretary collected some outstanding fines in the process.
On behalf of Penn & Tylers Green Football Club I would like to thank Hazlemere Golf Club for its hospitality, for providing friendly staff and for the excellent menu. The food was outstanding.
Committee Member Paul Benning who, as in previous years, organised the event splendidly commenced proceedings for the awards and presentations at 19:30.
Chairman Tony Hurst took the podium and gave a brief review of a successful trophies winning season for all sections of the football club, including the seniors, juniors, mini footballers and girls. Tony thanked the managers, coaches, committee members, suffering wives (in a nice touch the suffering wives were presented with flower bouquets) and our “resident” ball boy for all their hard work throughout the season.
A special mention went to Rob Chappell who stepped down as A-Team Manager after years of loyal service to the football club.
The speech was followed by the awards presentation with Chairman Tony Hurst, Vice Chairman Andy Walker and in case of the Stan Laing Clubman of the Year Award by Dotty Laing and her Granddaughters doing the honours.
The Managers of all four senior sections, Paul Benning, Steve Laing and Giovanni Sepede (duly forgetting to mention his assistant JonPaul Iaciofano in his speech) then announced the awards as part of their brief season reviews which this year went as follows:
- Curtis Stone = Youth Team Players’ Player of the Year
- Luke Cohen = Youth Team Manager’s Player of the Year
- Greg Thomas = A-Team Players’ Player of the Year
- Kyran Lacey = A-Team Manager’s Player of the Year
- Albert O’Rourke = Reserves Players’ Player of the Year
- Paul Lindsay = Reserves Manager’s Player of the Year
- James Louison = First Team Players’ Player of the Year
- Dean Munday = First Team Manager’s Player of the Year
- Chris Hurst = Young Player of the Year
- John Grimsdell = Clubman of the Year
Many congratulations to this year’s award winners.
Everyone showed their appreciation to the winners with tumultuous applause, none more so than for the emotional John Grimsdell who received a standing ovation.
Following the awards ceremony dinner was served at 20:15 followed by John Grimsdell’s excellent rendition of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and a disco.
Needless to say that there may have been the consumption of the odd glass of intoxicating liquor throughout the evening but of course I cannot vouch for that (although the Secretary kept snapping away with his camera throughout the evening collecting some evidence).
Anyhow, this was another excellent and very enjoyable evening and it was great to see so many faces from the four senior sections. Roll on next season!
Andreas Latta (Secretary)
