Penn & Tylers Green FC U16s won League on Sunday

Penn & Tylers Green FC U16s claimed the Wycombe and South Bucks Division 1 Title after a tough fought out 3-1 victory against Ickenham Youth.

Things were all set for a big encounter on Mother’s Day with Penn knowing that if they won the match the Championship would be theirs but Ickenham were also in a position that if they won, they could go on to win the league as a they still had a number of games to play. The first half was played with both teams trying to get a grip on the game with Penn creating more forward play and attack’s and Andre Chiriac was unlucky when a speculative long-range effort hit the bar.

Freddy Nichols, Bradley Jones, Charlie Flint and Tom Craft all worked tirelessly in the midfield with the Penn defence of Dan James, Harley Fisk, Fikayo Eniola and Dyelle Diamond looking comfortable and compact.

Half time was reached, 0-0.

The second half got under way and Penn looked to create an opening spreading the ball well through midfield trying to put the Ickenham defenders under pressure but half way through Ickenham broke away and after a scramble in the area and the initial shot saved well by Louis Hester, Ickenham managed to score and looked to ruin Penn’s day.

Having matured over the seasons Penn have learnt not to panic and they all upped the tempo getting back on the ball and as William Schofield made another powerful run across the back four, he took his chance well and got Penn back in the game with a fine finish.

Penn now looked to take the momentum and Will Midwinter again showed his clever thinking with some probing passing and good break up play and with under 10 minutes to go Bradley Jones broke down the right and fed Deen Mirza in, who delivered a pin point cross for Andre Chiriac to volley in, 2-1.

Ickenham continued to fight but Penn’s attacking intent was too much with Oscar Rio Rios adding to the now fresher and more positive approach and in the final minute Will Schofield’s neat footwork led to him blatantly being pulled down in the area. Up stepped Tom Craft, to slot home the penalty leading to fantastic celebrations for the team!

The Penn coaches of Darren Jones, Lee Sturgeon and Matt Flint joined in with the boys’ joy and could not be happier for a great bunch of talented boys who have worked hard all season and shown tremendous team work.

Not present on the day but still a massive part of the team’s success are Charlie Harrigan, Marius Brellier, Darren Page, Maxwell Coppock and Harry Trout.

To top off the day the Penn& Tylers Green FC Rangers U16s coached by Tim Werrell, Darren Tavener and Aaron Farley we’re also crowned Champions of their league as they won 1-0 and other results worked in their favour!!

Happy, happy Mother’s Day!!
