Penn & Tylers Green FC U13 boys have enjoyed their first season as an 11-a-side league team, but overall are slightly disappointed as a group to end up finishing fifth in Division 2 of the Wycombe & South Bucks Minor Football League. Third place finish and a spot in Division 1 was a realistic target for the group mid-season and would have been a truer reflection of their ability levels, but it wasn’t to be.

In losing only four league games all season (three of those were without their regular Goalkeeper!), they have proved to themselves that they are now a much tougher team to play against and can compete in every game they play. They enjoyed some close games against both strong Burnham Boys teams who ended up finishing first and second, and they also remained unbeaten over the season against Stoke Mandeville FC and Ruislip Rangers, who finished third and fourth. However, eight draws from eighteen games ultimately cost them third place, but does shows the main area of improvement needed as an U14 group for next season i.e. taking chances in games when they are the better team.

They are a great group of boys to manage and every player improved over the course of the season, so I cannot really ask for anymore.

The U13s also deservedly reached their Final at the Penn Tournament for the third time since U9 level, but were beaten 1-0 in the final by an Academy team from Luton. Injuries on the day to Tommy Dymott (goalkeeper) and Ollie Kenyon (centre back) meant playing the quarter-final, semi-final and final in quick succession deprived of two of their best players and without substitutes, but they never gave up and were a credit to the Club on the day.

Congratulations go to the following boys who fully deserved their Awards given out at the U13 end of season party:

Clubman – Lewis Dale

Goal of Season – Monty Davis

Most Improved – Charlie Simons

Players Player – Jack Watson

Managers Player – Ollie Kenyon

The 2019-20 season will soon be upon us and pre-season training as an U14 group will start on 12th August 2019. Sadly, we say goodbye to two of the current U13 group who are leaving. In particular, Isaac Plunkett will be missed as he’s been with us since U5 level. However, Isaac is a talented runner, squash and hockey player so we understand why he is giving up. However, we will welcome at least one new player at U14 level and he will definitely help the group score some goals next season!

Finally, congratulations to the seven U13 boys who ran as a “Penn & Tylers Green FC U13 Boys” team in the Penn 7 Super Fun Run on Sunday 16th June 2019. Five of the team finished in the top 20 and deservedly won the 2019 Earl Howe Team Trophy for the Football Club (see group photo). A great effort and well done to Isaac Plunkett, Lewis Mediratta, Jack Watson, Ollie Kenyon, Oli Layfield, Max Alexander and Daniel Broderick.

Thank you to all U13 Players and Parents for their commitment and support over the season and to Andreas Latta at the Club for his help with all the admin involved. I hope everyone enjoys the Summer break.
